Kuan Im Tng Temple, Joo Chiat — Prayer Hall Audio Revitalisation

At Kuan Im Tng Temple in Joo Chiat, Energycon Engineering delivered a high-performance sound system designed specifically for vocal chanting and ceremonial music — ending years of technical breakdowns and finally giving the temple sound as dignified as the hall it fills. The project was covered by ProAVL Asia and Worship AVL.

The challenge

The temple’s previous system suffered frequent technical breakdowns, uneven coverage across the prayer hall, and muffled, unclear audio during services — exactly when clarity mattered most.

The people operating it are temple staff and volunteers, not audio engineers. Every past fix had added complexity; what the temple needed was a system that is reliable service after service and simple enough for non-technical staff to run.

Chanting is also a demanding source: sustained vocal energy, multiple voices, and headworn microphones worn for long ceremonies. The system had to reproduce it cleanly without feedback or fatigue.

The system we installed

How it was engineered

The system is built around a Powersoft Quattrocanali 4804 DSP amplifier platform in a single-zone layout: its onboard DSP handles precision tuning for the hall, while Smart Rails Management reduces energy draw and heat, Power Factor Correction stabilises the incoming supply, and advanced limiters protect the loudspeakers — directly addressing the reliability failures of the old system.

Four Yamaha CHR12 loudspeakers provide even coverage of the prayer hall, and a Yamaha MG12XU console keeps mixing straightforward for temple staff.

For chanting, four Shure SM35-TQG headworn microphones on SLXD1 bodypacks feed two SLXD4DA dual receivers — hands-free, stable digital wireless that stays clear through long ceremonies.
