Singapore Korean International School — Assembly Hall Audio Overhaul

Over the school holiday break, Energycon Engineering replaced the outdated audio system in the Singapore Korean International School (SKIS) assembly hall with a professional-grade Yamaha system — delivering clear, high-fidelity sound for every assembly and performance without disrupting a single school day.

The challenge

The hall’s existing system had fallen behind what the school needed: assemblies, ceremonies and student performances all ran through an ageing setup that could no longer deliver clear, consistent sound to a full hall.

The practical constraint was the calendar. A school assembly hall cannot be out of service during term time, so the entire removal, installation and commissioning had to fit inside the holiday break — with the system tuned and handover-ready before staff returned.

How it was engineered

The design pairs Yamaha CZR15 main loudspeakers with CHR15 fills, so the main pair carries the hall while the fills bring even coverage to seating the mains cannot reach cleanly — the alternative, simply driving the mains harder, is how school halls end up loud at the front and muffled at the back.

A Yamaha PX8 power amplifier drives the system with onboard DSP handling crossover and speaker processing, and a Yamaha MG20XU console gives teachers and AV crew enough inputs for performances while staying simple enough for a morning assembly. Shure SM58 vocal microphones and a Shure wireless system cover both fixed and roaming speech.
